In the heat of the Korean War, Allied forces have a problem; the North Korean Army is using a network of old Japanese tunnels to run military operations against the South, with near impunity Now the U.S. military will turn to an elite, highly trained and fearless group of men to find out where these tunnels lie and to destroy them once and for all.
The Hills Went Boom! is about a newly formed USMC Recon Unit clandestinely operating behind enemy lines during the Korean War. Recon Unit One is led by Corporal James Cunningham the Patrol and Mission Leader. The Unit consists of eleven Marines and one US Navy Corpsman. The men find they are in unusual situations while attempting to carry out their demolition assignments. Destroying the targeted caves and tunnels of North Korea presents unique challenges to the Unit in accomplishing their assigned missions.
Fast-paced, frankly realistic and action packed, The Hills Went Boom! is a unique glimpse into men whose honor, determination and sheer guts has one objective; to serve their country. Aroogah.
Mr. Acker has written his first novel. His previous writings have mostly been technical, educational or promotional. Hank retired from the IBM Corp. after thiry-six years and ran his own computer consulting company for nine years supporting K-12 schools, Colleges, Universities and several business clients. Most recently he was a Technology Aide at a local Nevada County elementary school.
Having served in the Korean War gives Hank a unique perspective on the books subject matter.
